Our History
Trinidad is the southern-most Caribbean Island. Situated seven miles off the coast of Venezuela, the island is 50 miles long and 37 miles wide. 1.3 million people call the island home.
The country is governed by a republic - with a president and a prime minister. It is a multi-ethnic society comprised primarily of East Indian (40 percent) and African (40 percent).
Hindu and Muslim are the primary religions on the island. Christians are in the minority.
The cost of living in Trinidad is extremely high and land cost are exorbitant. Because of this, many churches operate out of garages or private homes. Financial problems plague these places of worship, as they struggle to find permanent buliding structures.
Our Purpose
Many of the people the Trinidad and Tobago United Missions Volunteers Organization (TTUMVO) serve fight a daily battle with poverty. Drug abuse and moral decay are also rampant in their community. These people need a church that can supply their spiritual and physical needs. TTUMVO has embarked on a plan that will enable it to make considerable changes in the community and the country as a whole.
Some goals of the organization are:
- To build a church and shelter for people in their local community.
- To provide meals for the hungry.
- To donate Bibles and other learning materials.
- To promote substance abuse awareness through seminars, leaflets, etc.
- To advertise Christianity through billboards, radio, and television.
- To become actively involved in community service (helping to repair homes and cutting grass for the needy).
- To seek financial assistance for the development and expansion of all programs.
Our Needs
Our first objective is to build a place of worship and service in Trinidad to help the congregation currently meeting on porches and in basements. This mission center will be the base from which all programs would be implemented and carried out.
Central Vineyard Ministries is currently performing many of these services from its facility under a house, and with limited resources.
It is our belief that strong churches build strong communities and, in turn, build a strong country.
Spiritual and economic forces are wreaking havoc on many lives and in many homes across the country. Everyone is at risk of being subjected to the ills of today's society from drug abuse, domestic violence, alcoholism, and lack of values.
As we face the tremendous challenge of overcoming these obstacles, we need help to be successful.
We invite you to be a part of this critical effort and to share the vision that the Lord has given to us. Together we can make a difference in these lives that hand in the balance.
